At 81 years old, many in her village would have expected Iliu Rhoda to slow down, attend church only occasionally, and rely on the care of children and grandchildren. Instead, Rhoda’s life stood as a powerful testimony to her faith, perseverance, and love.
A committed Christian of Pentecostal background and a faithful member of Uganda Christian Fellowship Mission in Obule, Rhoda continued raising her two young granddaughters after their mothers passed away from complications similar to COVID-19. Every week, she could be found in church, carrying not only her Bible but also the deep responsibility of caring for the children.
Food was never her greatest challenge. With her small farm and the help of relatives in the gardens, Rhoda managed to provide for her granddaughters. Her deepest struggle had always been housing. For years, she and the girls lived in two dilapidated grass-thatched huts—one serving as a kitchen and the other as their bedroom. Each year those huts had to be repaired or rebuilt, an exhausting and costly cycle for her relatives and church community.
But God heard her prayers. Through the generosity of supporters, Rhoda received a permanent home—a safe, lasting place where she and her granddaughters could find peace and security. What once was her greatest burden became her greatest blessing.
This home is more than shelter. It is Rhoda’s legacy: a symbol of faith, love, and resilience passed down to her grandchildren. It stands as a testimony that her lifelong devotion to Christ was matched by the care she gave to the next generation.
A Word of Thanks from Rhoda
“I thank God for this house. For so many years, I prayed for a safe place where my granddaughters and I could live. Now, we have a home that will not fall apart each season. I am grateful to everyone who gave and who prayed for me. May God bless you for giving me and my grandchildren this gift of peace.”
