Just outside Escuintla, Guatemala, a ministry called Aliento is changing lives in ways that extend far beyond a meal.

Led by Taryn and Maudillio “Mau,” Aliento provides nutritious meals to more than 50 children three days each week. For many of these children, the meals offer not only nourishment but also consistency, care, and a place where they feel valued.

Yet hunger is only one challenge facing the community.

Many families have historically relied on river water or rainwater collected from aging metal roofs. Access to clean drinking water is limited, creating health concerns that affect entire families. Determined to make a difference, Mau drilled a well and developed a water filtration system that now provides safe water to community members.

Volunteers spent the week helping advance the ministry’s growing facility. The building will include a protected area where children can gather out of the intense heat and rain, along with offices and resources to expand future outreach efforts.

While construction work moved forward, one thing became clear: Aliento is about much more than buildings. It is about creating opportunities for children to thrive, families to access basic necessities, and communities to experience dignity and hope.

The impact of this ministry serves as a reminder that solving complex problems often starts with addressing simple needs. A meal. A cup of clean water. A safe place to gather.
