Veronica’s life was shattered when her husband was murdered by gang violence, right in the middle of the street and in full view of their family. Suddenly alone, she carried the weight of raising her children, providing for them, and keeping them safe in a home that was deteriorating around them.
Her house was a fragile tin-roof structure that frequently collapsed and an adobe section with deep cracks and offered no protection or stability. Her circumstances left her feeling overlooked and helpless.
“When my husband was killed, I felt alone, useless, and without strength. I watched everyone around me being helped, and I was left out. I prayed that God would bless me with a house.
Every time I prayed, my tin‑roof house collapsed. I prayed again, and my adobe house cracked. I prayed again, and CFC built me a bathroom. I prayed again, and my house was built.” — Veronica
Her quiet strength, perseverance, and faith left a lasting impression on everyone involved.
According to the Carpenters for Christ crew, working on Veronica’s home became the greatest blessing of their entire year. Veronica and her children regularly encouraged the team through their gratitude, their smiles, and their eagerness to help in any way they could.
Though they had little materially, their joy and resilience filled the worksite with hope.
Because of the combined efforts of BuyOne BuildOne, Carpenters for Christ, and dedicated supporters, Veronica and her children now have a safe, sturdy, and dignified place to live.
A home that will stand through the storms.
A home where fear is replaced by peace.
A home built on answered prayers.
Throughout the build, Veronica clung to the promise of Psalm 121: “My help comes from the Lord.”
